About David Yerks-Young: Embracing Life with Vision Loss
It all began with a single moment that changed my life forever: a diagnosis of legal blindness. At the time, I knew my world was about to change, but little did I know that this journey would also coincide with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, adding an extra layer of uncertainty.
Adjusting to vision impairment has been no easy feat. It’s been a rollercoaster of fear, frustration, and learning to accept that life as I knew it would never be the same. However, with time, I discovered that losing sight doesn’t mean losing everything else that makes life meaningful—like independence, ambition, and even a sense of humor. Through assistive technology, mobility training, and connecting with the larger visually impaired community, I found my way forward.
As I adapted, I also learned how to advocate for myself and others in the blind community. Today, I am passionate about sharing my story and the lessons I’ve learned so others can find their way too. That’s why I created I Now Pronounce You - Blind—a space not just for information, but for support, hope, and a little humor along the way.
This website isn’t just about me; it’s about you. Whether you’re someone newly diagnosed with vision loss, a family member seeking advice on how to support a loved one, or just curious about life with blindness, I hope the resources, stories, and practical tips I share here can help you navigate your own journey. Vision loss does not define us—it’s how we adapt and thrive that truly matters.
Thank you for visiting, and welcome to my world—a world where blindness is only a part of who we are, but how we adjust to it defines our strength.
